Speeding ticket questions I have?
-
Okay, so I was caught going 91 mph on the freeway when the max speed was 65. I was issued a speeding ticket In California, in the city of Whittier. I signed the ticket, where it says "without admitting guilt, I promise to appear at the time and place indicated below". The court date was 7/6/2010 at 8:15am. I didnt show up, and instead went to the website at 2pm on 7/6/2010(which is today), and got an extension. Now my court date is on 9/8/2010. Now my questions are, why do I need to go to court for? Cause I would gladly just pay the ticket online. Am I eligible to go to traffic school? Even though I got an extension, do I need to pay the ticket today? Also, When I got the extension, It told me the date I had to appear but didnt give me a time... it only gave me the date...9/8/2010... what should I do? I called the phone number issued on my ticket (under the court and time that was issued) and I got an automated voice message system, I couldnt talk to any one. How can I get in contact with an actual person who can help me with my ticket questions?

Answer:
1. Attending court allows government workers to have a salary. If everything was done online, those people would have nothing to do(sad). 2. Continue to call. Don't give up after one try. Also leave a message. 3.Slow the hell down. Just lost a friend last month in an accident, be careful mate

In most courts, you cannot get traffic school online or through the mail if your speed was more than 25 mph over the limit. This makes me think you pissed off the citing officer somehow, since he wrote you up for 1 mph more than that. There is also a considerable difference in the fine between 25 and 25 mph over the limit. So you want to go to court and admit speeding but suggest that it is very possible that the officer made a 1 mph mistake and ask for the lower fine and traffic school. You will not be able to do any of this over the phone.
The court should tell you whether or not traffic school is an option. In California, you can not take traffic school for serious violations or if you've taken traffic school within the past 18 months. http://www.trafficschooltogo.com offers court-approved online traffic school, which I recommend. Just verify that your violation is eligible to have the point removed.
