Is this just growing pains or is something more serious?

Is my six year old daughter having growing pains or something more serious?

  • My daughter has been walking wierdly, kind of limping, but more like walking "flat-footed". She doesn't flex her foot when she is walking or running. She says it hurts on the top of her foot and that it moves up the front of her shin. Is this just growing pains? What else could it be??

  • Answer:

    Does she have flat feet?

I had growing pains when I was about 13 and they were mostly in my knee. Growing pains definitely make you "walk weirdly" and from what I understand can occur in any major joint where the body (muscles, and bones) grow to fast for the ligaments that hold them together. What your describing sounds more like a mixture of shin splints and something else, maybe a broken bone in the foot. If it goes on for more than a week I would defiantly talk to a doctor.

if she fell a week before or so it could be a hairline fracture, (from my point of understanding) u should go for x-rays just to be safe
