How do you Vibrate your voice when your Singing?

Why is my singing voice gone?

• I am a vocal performance major. My voice has been gone for close to 2 months. I got sick where my tonsils had big white sores on them and my glands blew up. This sickness reoccurred 3 times, and once it was gone so was my singing voice. Now my speaking voice is clear, and I can sing low notes just as I used to, but my high notes (I am a mezzo soprano) are either really raspy or do not come out at all. Once my speaking voice came back, I began smoking weed every now and then, even though my singing voice hadn't come back yet. I have good days and bad days, sometimes my high notes are clearer and better than other days. I am worried that smoking may have messed up my voice permanently. I have stopped after suspecting that it may contribute to why my voice wasn't coming back. If it was the smoking, are these effects reversible? I spoke to my voice teacher about my problem (leaving out the smoking weed part) and he said he was worried I had either a virus in my vocal chords, strained them (which is very possible) or have nodules on them. He also said that my taking claritin (a type of antihistimine allergy medication) might be drying me out and not to take it, but I have only been taking the claritin once or twice a week because I live with my cat. I do not have health insurance, and my parents do not make a lot of money, so going to see a specialist is a last resort for me. Singing is my entire life, and without it I do not know what I would do. I have spent the last 3 hours researching voice abnormalities and nothing has been the kind of case that has answered my specific questions. Your answers would be GREATLY appreciated.
