What tips can you give to get into a normal sleep routine?

Tips for sleep deprivation?

  • I have to stay up for the next 20 hours in order to fix my REM CYCLE. For 2 weeks I've been falling asleep in the early hours of the day, (5 to 7 am usually). I then sleep all day, can't sleep at night, and the cycle continues. I'm just gonna have to tough it through as sleeping pills, herbs, (sleep aids) DONT WORK (trust me, I've tried. I'm a hardhead insomniac). I've wasted enough of my life 'trying' to sleep to know when its just futile. What are some tips for making this experience as positive as possible. (I don't wanna have a negative attitude as I'll need a lot of inner strength not to give in and sleep during the day. I know I can't nap or it's just too hard to wake back up, so please don't try to convince me to take a 'short' nap) Obviously sleep deprivation is NOT FUN, but I really wanna try to take as positive a spin on it as possible. I can go through this and make it as bad as possible, get really depressed, or I can embrace the experience and try to be as optomistic as possible. I'm already looking forward to actually be able to socialize again. Life cab be very lonely to the chronic insomniac (although I love the beauty of nighttime). I just want some tips n how I can mentally and physically take care of myself during this time. I AM VERY AWARE NOT TO DRIVE OR DO ANYTHING POTENTIALLYHAZARDOUS WHEN SLEEP DEPRIVED, I HAVE PEOPLE I LOVE WHO CAN DRIVE ME PLACES ANYTIME I NEED. And no, I won't take drugs. Except for the LEGAL caffinated coffee, BUT NOT WITHIN 5 HOURS OF MY CRASH TIME (I'm aiming for 8pm).

Good luck! I would try to keep myself busy. Personally, if I had a lot sleep deprived time to waste I'd play video games, or simple games online, watch movies etc but movies can be dangerous coz they can make you sleepy. Make sure you see the sun, if you can. If it's a nice day, get outside, at least for a little while. It's spose to help with sleep patterns. And I always manage to waste hours on here. Just find some interesting questions to answer.

i don't think anything under 40 hours is too hard :D, just don't sit still as in stay occupied. drinking caffeine within any time of sleep shouldn't be a problem :) , after being awake for 30 hours you can drink several cups of coffee in a row and still get to sleep pretty easily! and the driving thing is probably good XD , can feel reaction time and intelligence drop by the hour after a while :P

try to simulate day time...maybe your body loves sleeping during the day. Make your room bright and buy some day time recordings (like busy street, birds chirping, dogs barking etc. your choice) make sure that your room has a proper air flow as well (it helps a lot) to help you relax as you lay down on your bed. If any of these won't work, try the old fashion way...count some sheeps in your sleep, read a novel, drink few bottles of beer before sleeping.
