Frequent, horrible nose bleeds please help?
-
About 2 weeks ago my daughter and my brother were playing and he either hit her in the nose or something cause her nose started bleeding some. well hours later while she was just laying face up on my lap her nose started bleeding very bad. she soaked many towels with her blood and kept bleeding for awhile. since it wouldnt stop we went to the er. they looked in her nose and he said there was a small laseration. he said it should be okay but refered her to an ent just in case. well the following day the hospital called back and said if it hadnt bled again to wait to take her in. well now the past week she has had 5 very severe nose bleeds. tonight was by far the worst though. she was just sitting on the couch and i noticed a little blood on her stomach and on my arms and shirt. as i was cleaning up her stomach her nose started pouring blood. so i grabbed a towel, put pressure on her nose it kept bleeding and after about 10 mins she started choking on blood. as she was choking she spit something out of her mouth and blood started filling up in her mouth while it was still pouring out her nose. i rushed her to the bathroom and held her over the sink. blood just started pouring from her mouth and nose and no matter what i did it wouldnt stop. then finally after 10 mins it stopped. i dont understand what could be happening. its not from one specific nostril it changes up from the left to the right. this doesnt seem normal. of course i am calling the ent first thing in the morning and demanding an appt as soon as possible but i am freaking out. she is only three years old and very tiny. (no medical problems) and for her to be losing this much blood frequently cant be normal. please anyone who has any idea what could be going on... please help. i ahte seeing her like this. (while it is happening she screams)

Answer:
Do not plug a nose bleed up! This can cause blood to go into the brain and could be fatal. Get a bucket and let her bleed it out. If you plug the nose, since it leads straight to the brain, you could be allowing blood to build up into her brain. Just seek medical help about the nosebleeeds but don't block the nose, let it bleed out as gross as that is.

A lot of people still think you should tilt the head back when you should really sit in a chair and lean forward and pinch the bridge of the nose....but coming out of both nostrils would really concern me. Do you live in a dry climate? I live in Wisconsin too. I have been getting nose bleeds pretty much my whole life. I'm thinking maybe the fact that she is screaming and crying is sucking it down her throat and making her gag and spit it out her mouth. I know from experience, once you have a little cut in there, it hard to heal because anytime you just wiggle your nose a little bit it can tear it open again. Still, I would get her to the doctor ASAP. Not sure if they still cauterize or not. I think they put some kind of Silver Nitrate or something like that to help the healing.
