Opening the throat when singing?

Very sore throat, but not sick? Singing audition coming up tomorrow :s Help please?

  • I have had a very sore throat this week. It's not so bad any more, but it's still very much there. I drink quite a bit of water, vitamin c, tea with honey, I have lozenges etc. It has all helped slightly, and I think it's going (although I don't know what's wrong?). I have a very important singing audition tomorrow afternoon, and I'm taking on a Christina Aguilera song. This usually doesn't strain my voice at all, but I have to hit high falsetto notes etc. I know it's not safe to sing with a sore throat, but I need to do this audition. Is there anything I can do to help it? I have tried gargling salt water, it only helped a bit. Maybe I didn't put enough salt in. It kind of feels like I have a lump in my throat or something, but my glands aren't enlarged or anything of the sort. It's more of a scratchy sore throat, it doesn't hurt when I eat or swallow or anything. What can I do to get rid of my sore throat :s

  • Answer:

important is not to drink any milk or fizzy drinks. good stuff for the vocal cords is a decoction of flax seeds, warm olive oil with lemon juice, or warm herbal tea with honey and lemon. Don't drink raw egg, its a myth and it can give you salmonella - very painful and it can kill you. Make yourself heating throat compress before going to bed http://www.modernguidetohealth.com/home-remedies-treatments/heating-compress.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/ulrikepohl/sets/72157627105898688/detail/
