How painful is scoliosis surgery and what's the aftermath of it?

Whats wrong with my back?

• i had back surgery for scoliosis in 2008 but then this year my back been hurting.. like when i lay down my lower back will hurt so bad and then somedays my back will be pinching.. but its mostly my lower back.. just laying down it hurts.. what could be wrong? is it the rods or screws or is it a pinched nerve? i cant go to my back doctor until december and i already went to physical therapy but that didnt work.

  when you had the surgery, was it for the upper or lower spine? You could have a pinched nerve or something, but it could also be muscular. Or it could be a change in the curvature. I also had problems with the rods/screws after i had scoliosis surgery and ended up having the rods removed, so I do know that they can create big problems too. One good book that I read very recently is called "Scoliosis Surgery: The Definitive Patient's Reference" by David Wolpert, and even though I had my first surgery in 2002, I still found some very useful info in it about potential side effects, etc., that i didn't know until now. There might be something good in there... Do you have a GP that could send you for X-rays to make sure things are all still ok and lined up the way they're supposed to be? Also, have you tried massage therapy or acupuncture? Something like that may help... Good luck!!
