My foot is cracking?

My foot makes a strange cracking sound?

  • You know the movement of stepping on the gas? When your feet rotate about your ankle (the axis)? When I do that with my left leg it makes a strange cracking sound which sounds exactly like cracking knuckles. And I dunno if I imagined it or what but it seems like it's sprained (or maybe it's because I walk awkwardly to try not to trigger that sound) Oh and it doesn't hurt not one bit. Is it normal?

  • Answer:

The cracking noise you hear is your ankle joint moving. Like you said, it sounds like cracking your knuckles...that is because the same thing is happening in the ankle joints. There is fluid in most of the joints (knuckles, ankle..etc). When we move the joint is a specific way, the fluid squirts or "pops". That is what you would feel as the "popping" sensation. The sound you hear (cracking) is the noise that comes from the fluid leaving the joint. If you hurt your ankle, it would not make noise. It would just hurt.

i have the same problem. it's just your ankle cracking. i got it from rolling my ankles a lot when playing basketball. im not sure if you've done something like that that would make it happen. its not bad though

yep, do not worry about it. just pops of getting older. I wouldn't sit around doing it on purpose though when you really get older it could lead towards arthritis
