How long does it take for a black eye to go away?

Had an eye injury at work today. How long should it take for the blurry to go away?

• At work today I go hit on the eye with a strip of metal pretty hard. My lid is a little swollen and my eye feels rough. When my eye starts to tear up It starts to sting. Also my vision is blurry in the one eye. And Yes I went to a doctor. It was a quick care place that my employer uses for its workercomp insurance. The doctor there looked at my eye and said all the damage was on the lid and it should improve in a day. If there is no improvement in a day then I should go to the emergency room. It happened at about 11 am and and it 830 pm now. I feel some improvement in the pain but the blurry is bad. How long should I expect the blurry last? What causes it? Can anyone help me with some info?

  A doctor from a quick care place, not an opthomologist, tells you to go to an ER if it does not get better?You should see a specialist for any eye injury. If you do not have improved vision within that twenty four hr period, go to the ER immediately. You should be getting the care you need for a work place injury and if not, contact your state workmans compensations office. Good luck.
