How to tell if i broke my finger?

on my ring finger, the knuckle right below the nail got crushed by another persons wrist then hit with a football, right after it happened it got dark purple (just that knuckle part) and swelled,that was 5 days ago, and i havnt gone to a dr. yet, now it is kinda red and light greenish and i cant make a fist with out it hurting a lot, is it broken?
