Why does my ankle crack all the time?

I fell and hurt my ankle about 3 weeks ago and it hasn't healed yet.. I think it's just a sprain, but now Idk?

  • About three weeks ago I slipped on the welcome mat outside my front door and fell. When I fell my leg flailed out to the side and my ankle made a pop/crack sound.. It automatically started swelling, and it hurt so bad I got nauseous and started sweating like I was running a fever. It hurt really badly, but I was on the way to work so I just went ahead and left. I work in a grocery store, so I stood on it basically all day, despite the pain. I left about an hour and a half early from work because I couldn't stand the pain any longer. When I got home, I took my shoe off to find that it was extremely swollen and bruised from my toes to the back of my leg and all around my ankle. The side bone on my ankle was about the size of a small ball, and the top of my foot was raised at least a little more than an inch higher than my other foot. I don't have insurance, so I never got to go to the doctor. And yes, I know the emergency takes you if you don't have insurance, but I never really had the time to go sit up there the first week, and after that I figured it was too late. So I iced it, wrapped it, borrowed my friends crutches, etc. Anyway, the swelling has gone done a lot, but it's still really swollen compared to my other ankle. And it still hurts when I walk on it in certain spots, like the back of my ankle and where the side is swollen. And when I touch it, the top hurts really badly at the top of my foot near the toes. It mostly feels tight when I walk, almost like having a screw stuck through it. I still have greenish brown bruises on the back of my leg. I've never broken a bone or anything, and I've never had a sprain this bad. Also, my knees pop all the time, even though I only just turned 20, but ever since the fall, the knee on that leg pops every other minute. I've had a lot of health problems, especially recently, so I'm not sure if it has something to do with my body not healing properly. I don't know, but if anyone has advice I will gladly take it.

  • Answer:

just get an x-ray.. don't risk your ankle or foot being messed up the rest of your life or needing to get surgery on it later..
