Do I have a sprained knee?

Symptoms of a sprained knee?

  • hello im almost 16 and almost exactly 1 year ago, i completely tore my ACL, and had my surgery. about 12 months later, (yesterday), i made a wrong turn or something, and i sorta hurt. I pretty sure i didn't re-tear it, because i can still extend it out 100 percent without any pain, and i can stand without pain. it kind of hurts wen i walk, buts its more of an uncomfortable feeling, rather than pain.So im wondering if its a sprain. It also feel a little unstable. Lastly, its only a little bit swollen. Are these the symptoms of a sprained knee?

  • Answer:

Yes, these are symptoms of a ligament sprain. Just because you can still extend the knee and stand doesn't mean the ACL isn't torn. The instability is worrisome because that's one of the main jobs of the ACL. When you get your ACL repaired, it's never as strong as it was before making it slightly more likely that you will have a tear again. Have your old physiotherapist check it out then maybe have an orthopedic surgery consult arranged pending the physio's opinion.
