How to treat shoulder injury?

Did I pull a muscle in my shoulder?

  • Yesterday, I started working out again after a few months. I was a bit of an idiot, and didn't warm up at all before doing my bench presses and shoulder presses. I started out with a high number of weight. It felt like a good workout at the time, but last night I started getting the most horrible pain in my left shoulder in the deltoid area. My muscle there is sensitive if I put a little pressure on it. It hurts as it is, without me doing anything at all, but intensifies as I move it vertically up and down, or move it back, as if I'm reaching to scratch my lower back. The most sensitive spot is the deltoid itself - the large muscle near my shoulder blade. It pretty much kept me awake for most of the hours last night, but I did manage to find a position to where I was somewhat comfortable. I was laying primarily on my right side, with my left arm slung over a pillow in front of me. Does this sound like a pulled muscle? A strain? A sprain? What are some things I can do to help it recover? I'm not worried about the pain. I can handle it. I'm just primarily wondering what the best way to treat this type of injury is.

  • Answer:

Probably just a pulled or overworked muscle. Put some warm packs on it to make it feel better and move it around to keep it limber. That's what I do when I have a muscle pain and it goes away in a couple days.
