My nose was reset but the doctor did not fix my deviated septum can i still have it repaired?
-
I had my nose reset or a closed reduction 6 days after I was hit in the face. The doctor looked at my nose and told me it was fractured and told me I could have it reset using a general or a local. I opted for a local as I would remain awake. When he manipulated it clicked into place and on viewing the mirror I was quite pleased. It was very swollen but it did appear to be straight. Four days later I noticed my nose was still a bit bent to one side and one nostril is slighter lower than the other. I went back to see the doctor as one side of my nose had started to look bigger than the other he reassured me that it was swelling from where the nose is healing. Four weeks later my nose looks bent at different angles and to top it all I have just received a letter that has been sent to doctor advising him that I have a deviated septum. I am quite angry that I wasn't told this at the time and given all the options of treatment I could have. Instead by just fixing the bridge of my nose my nose has not been fully repaired and most worrying I have heard that a deviated septum is very likely to bend more with time. Is this normal procedure of the NHS or was I just really unlucky that the person treating me couldn't be bothered to fully fix my nose? Is it still possible to fix a deviated septum later on without a full rhinoplasty? I'm so upset as I think he could have easily fixed it at the time and couldn't be bothered! Anyone else had this done?

Answer:
Your doctor probably didn't take the time to examine you properly and since he didn't perform a "big" surgery with general anesthesia he didn't get a good look inside during the operation either. You can now have a revision (after a year of the date of your original surgery) and fix the deviation and any other problems that your previous doctor didn't fix or created. Do some research on doctors that specialize in revisions and are known to fix both cosmetic and functional issues. Good luck.
