Why does my ankle crack all the time?

Why is my ankle screwed up?

• Two years ago I think i sprained my ankle... Although it was a little different than any of my previous ankle sprains. This time when i twisted it I heard a crack (I got x-rays and i have no broken bones). I iced it like a normal sprain and tried to keep off it. However, this sprain did not hurt nearly as bad as any of my previous sprains because i could even walk on it that day with a limp, it got swollen but not that bad. Ever since this happened to my ankle two years ago my ankle has been all messed up. It has healed in the sense that it doesn't really ever hurt, but my ankle just feels somehow out of place compared to before and to my good ankle. Also, if i try and move my ankle around with my hands my ankle appears to be moving in ways that my good ankle cannot. It feels as though the thing that blocks my good ankle from moving strangely just isn't there anymore in my bad ankle. I have been going to physical therapy lately but even this seems to be doing nothing. Can anyone please tell me what is going on in my ankle and what i can do to get it back to normal

  I broke my ankle seven years ago and tore the ligaments three times after that and my ankle has never been the same. It sounds extremely similar to what yours feels like now. I've learned to live with the weirdness though. As long as it's not painful, I'd say there isn't much to worry about unless you're very active. It could pose a problem if you're in situations where you often need to pivot/plant your foot. Keep at the physical therapy.. healing sprains and breaks the correct way mostly just takes time and effort.
