Why do my bones hurt when I run?

Why do I feel nauseous when I'm not badly hurt?

  • Last summer I was playing a very physical, full-contact game and got my arm stuck between two people. I felt my forearm bend between them, and couldn't pull away until it was quite painful. I thought "whew, that could have broken my arm!" and kept playing. About ten minutes later I was starting to feel nauseous and went to go talk with my friends to keep my mind off it. They noticed that my arm was swelling very fast in one spot, and made me put ice on it. It hardly hurt at all, maybe a 3 out of 10 at the worst, and I had ice on it so I couldn't see the swelling, but I felt sicker and sicker until I went to go lie down by myself to wait it off. My boss found me a few minutes later. He took a look at me and said it looked exactly like a broken arm, based on the swelling, the fact that my arm hurt in exactly one spot, and the fact that I was green and shaking like a leaf. I felt really embarrassed that people thought I was hurt, because I didn't feel that much pain at all, and like a total sissy for feeling faint over something that wasn't a big deal. I started to believe him, though, because he is a trained wilderness paramedic and said he's seen broken bones where not everyone feels the pain right away. I was feeling much better as long as I was lying down, and I was starting to get very annoyed because I didn't know how I could pass my commercial driver's test the next day with a broken arm. But my boss made someone take me to the hospital. My arm ended up not being broken, and it never even hurt much at all. The ER staff must have been thinking, "why the hell are you here?" I've had a reasonable share of injuries that look worse and hurt a lot more (big toenail ripped off, torn calf muscle, very severe ankle sprain, dislocated elbow, getting run over by a horse) without feeling sick at all. I sure hope I'm not just hysterical. What gives? Is that nausea something you can actually control?

  • Answer:

It was probably because you panicked. When your arm got stuck, the fact that you thought 'whew!' After, proves that you were panicked right? The neasea might be some after affect of a panic attack or just getting a shock.
