Will a slightly broken toenail regrow properly?
-
I accidentally smacked my foot into the wall, and my toenail very slightly cracked. The whole nail is not in danger of falling off at all; just the left side of the top 1/4 of the nail. It's not that a big at all. I am just not sure if I should let it go, or try to cut it off the portion that's cracked. If I let it keep growing will the broken part be easier to cut off then?

Answer:
Hi. If you cut down the nail then you could cause an ingrown toenail. If the offending nail is easy to cut, i.e. away from the skin, then cut it because you don't want it to rip off. But don't cut down the sides. Toenails will grow out, but will be very slow. If you damaged your nail matrix (where the nail grows from) then it might grow back thicker. Depending how and where you whacked your foot. All the best.
