What are the symptoms like an ingrown toenail?

Callus, Corns, Or Ingrown Toenail?

  • The inside side of my big toenail looks swollen and at first it was red and painful, so, thinking it was an ingrown toenail, i cut down my nail, and i have been soaking it in warm water and iodine for 20 minutes everyday. the redness has went down, and the pain is gone, but it still looks swollen. before i cut down my toenail, my toe had blistered and skin started to peel off. when i showed my toe to my mom she said it was possible i had a callus since it was peeling. and that maybe why it looks swollen. so i started looking up pictures and info on calluses and corns, but i still feel it looks nothing like my toe. can someone please tell me what it is? im really scared of it being an ingrown toenail and having to get surgery. it doesnt seem infected, it doesnt pus or bleed. help!! also, can you get ingrown toenails at the bottom edge of your nail?

  • Answer:

When you clip your toe nails it is so very important to go straight across. Never clip the corner out this will cause an in grown toe nail every time. If you have done this as the nail grows back out file the nail across and rould the corners edge. It doesnt sound like a callus or a corn. It sounds like you have had a blister there and it is broken and left that skin. sounds good that the redness has gone down and it is good that you did the soak. It could be swollen from you messing with it. if the pain is gone let it rest now. If you call around some places salons/spas will give you a sports pedicure at a reduced price. they will teach you how to take care of your nails and feet and let you know about the callus/corns they may see.

If the swelling is fully gone, you could have the ingrown nail removed by a pedicurist. They are the best when it comes to cutting down ingrown nails. You should not worry because they are total experts. I have removed an ingrown nail once through the service of a pedicurist and it went great! Given if the swelling is not present.

Ive got them and it seems like ingrown tonail(s) to me.
