Do I Have Runners Knee ( Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome ) ?

Okay so Ive had a bad knee for about a year now. The pain first started when i was walking it kept clicking. It was more painful going downhil.The pain now only comes when I bend down on it and if i fully extend my leg with the knee locked. I used to do kickboxing and found that I had pain when sed to squat down to the floor punch the pad several times. Also my knee is a bit swollen has been for about a year and the pain is around the kneecap and abit on the front. If i put my hand on my knee and bend my knee i can feel it grinding.I also have a weak ankle one the same leg. What do you think I have done and how would it be treated? I am 12 years old 13 in October if that helps.

It sounds as though you may have a similar injury to me especially as I do street/ break dance too. the sports therapist I saw said it was a patella strain, which is the tendon that effectively runs over the top of your knee (over your knee cap - You can google it for more info!). I am not a doctor but have had my injury for 2 years. The doctor told me it was growing pains (although I am 23!) so if you see a doctor do not let them tell you this is what it is, and send you away. I throroughly recommend physio either through your doctor or privately like I did. A physiotherapist will be able to diagnose your injury better. Good luck I hope this was a little helpful, apologies if not! :) Oh also, I had a sports massage and ultrasound on my knee, ultrasound sounds wierd but it really eased the pain. It is nothing to worry about it just sends pulses into the knee and it feels quite warm! Just a suggestion
