How long does it take to form a bruise under the toe nail?

  Well robyn, the reality is, it probably won't bruise. If you just dropped it on your toenail and it is turning blue/purple, then the nail absorbed most of the damage and the following will happen - 1. - the nail will turn colors, and either the pain will subside and the nail will grow out as normal, or 2. - the nail will turn colors and the internal pressure under the nail will continue to grow causing alot of discomfort. You will know if this is the case if you still feel lots of pain 4 days after hurting it. If this is the case you will need to have it "lanced". This is when either yourself with a sewing needle, or a medical Professional with a hypodermic needle will heat the needle up with a lighter, and then push the tip of the needle down into the nail from the top, allowing a small hole for blood and pressure to escape, relieving the pain. It is tough to know if you will keep the nail in either circumstance or if it will just fall off. Time will tell. If you bruised the toes as well as the nail, then the bruise should show up within the first 24 hours. Good luck, hope this helped.
