Question about arthroscopic knee surgery recovery?
-
I had arthroscopic knee surgery 3 1/2 weeks ago and I'm still in quite a bit of pain. The most pain I feel is when I try to move my lower leg to the side. Such as, if I want to sit on the floor with my kids or if I'm laying in bed and want to adjust the blanket by lifting my leg sideways to move the blanket. These little motions hurt me so bad. Also, I still can't bend my knee all the way. I can't sit cross-legged on the floor because that causes me excruciating pain. Has anyone else gone through this? My doctor told me I'd be back to my old self within a week and back to running within 4. That's not going to happen! Oh, one other thing...I can't kneel on my knees. My husband is going crazy that he's been bathing the kids himself because I still can't put any weight on my knee. Is this "normal"?

Answer:
Please get to your doctor as soon as possible! You could very well have a blood clot from the surgery that needs tending right away. I had arthroscopic surgery on my knee and within 3 days developed a blood clot in my calf. It was very painful and after having a doppler scope done, it revealed the exact location of the clot. I had to be admitted to the hospital for 2 days to have blood thinning IVs, then I was put on Cumadin, the brand name for the genetic name Warfarin, an oral blood thinner, for several months until it went away. I had to go in for periodic blood work to check the INA readings. It took a while to get the correct dosage of blood thinner regulated. I am happy to say the medicine worked and now I am free of the blood clot and no longer need the medication. This is sometimes a frequent occurrence after knee surgery. Please do not hesitate. This could be very serious. I wish you the best of luck!
