I got injured at work. What are the steps through a work injury case?

I got injured at work, made my spine crooked. The injury is permanent, unless I take a life-or-cabbage spine surgery (life = spine fixed, can move freely OR cabbage = spine worsened, can't move like a cabbage) Now I really want to sue for boss for work negligence. So before I find a lawyer, I just want to know what are the steps through a work injury case (in Australia).
