Why is my toe hurting?

My foot is still hurting after I broke my toe 4 months ago?

  • I got my foot run over by a car in early November, and it broke my 4th toe. I was given a special boot to wear and told to wear it for 6 weeks. I stopped wearing it after 6 weeks, and it started hurting again a little later, though it wasn't my toe hurting this time, it was in the middle of my foot (metatarsals I guess). It has been hurting off and on since then, but mostly when I have to walk/stand a lot. I have been wearing that shoe again since mid-January because I got my foot checked out again and they said that I had a stress fracture. I went to an orthopedist a week ago, and the doctor said that he couldn't see the stress fracture that I supposedly had, but that stress fractures don't always show up on X-ray until months later. He told me to keep wearing the shoe for 6 more weeks and come back. He's going to do another X-ray and if that still looks the same, he'll do an MRI to see why my foot is still hurting when the original injury happened in November. My foot hurts mostly when I'm walking, but also sometimes when I'm resting, but it doesn't hurt when I touch it or press on different parts of my foot. Why would it still be hurting? Should I request to get an MRI done now, rather than waiting? Thanks!
