How do you know when stitches are ready to come out?

The surface skin isn't fusing on my toe after stitches?

• How do I know when my stitches are able to come out? There is a gap still and the skin isn't together. I am not bleeding at all, but wondering how long it will take to fuse if it will at all??

  There is no set time in how long it takes skin to heal. It depends on your body. When the stitches were put in the doctor should have scheduled a check up date to check it's progress. The first few layers of skin do tend to heal quickly, but if there are other underlying problems, like an infection, it can take longer. If you've gone more than a few days passed the day scheduled by your doctor and there is still no improvement, I would recommend seeing your physician again. Do not tamper with your stitches under any circumstances because it will make things worse.
