How long does tendonitis last?

Can someone help me with a Tendonitis question please?

My boyfriend has Tendonitis in his left ankle & I feel so bad for him! He's always limping & he's always complaining how bad it hurts. He went to the hospital last week & they didn't do nothing but told him it's Tendonitis & to just lay of it (the hospital is extremely ghetto&they don't care about anyone!) I just felt his ankle & it feels like a big ball & its really tender. What can he do to make it heal! Or what can we do to make it feel better & make it heal. Does this ever go away?? Is there a cure?? Please help I'm desperate!

the hospital didnt do anything because you really cant do anything for it unless there is an underlying cause for it like something torn or broke. the treatment is RICE. rest, ice, compression and elevation. meaning stay off it like the hospital said, ice 20 min on at least 20 min off, wrap it up or use a brace so its stable and not working so hard, and elevate it above the heart. also taking anti-inflammatories like advil or aleve will help too
