Question about my daughters knees?
-
My daughter was 10 when she was diagnosed with osgood schlatters disease of her left knee. Then when she turned 12 she got diagnosed with osteocondridiousdececands (OCD) in her right knee. Then when she was 12 1/2 she had a surgery to fix her meniscus. The doctor said it was the worst meniscul tear he had ever seen, and that my daughters knee was in the worst shape he had ever seen a kids knee. Then 7 months later she had surgery again to try and fix the meniscus because the first time it didn't fix it. They ended up taking out her meniscus, fixing a tear in her acl, and pcl. They also took a ton of cartilage out of her knee because it was causing her pain and was loose anyways. After that surgery she never recovered right. She developed severe arthritis in her knee, and now the doctors want to do another surgery on her knees, to correct her knock knees because she's putting weight where their is no meniscus. They also want to do the third surgery because they fear that her knee will dislocate on here, with missing parts in her knee. I fear for her. Don't say they are a scam because they are actually rated the second best orthoepaedic surgeons in the country for children. What should I expect in the future for her and her knees? I'm worried for her.

Answer:
Did you get a second opinion before this doctor hacked in to your still growing daughters knee? I was also diagnosed with all that you mentioned when i was about the same age. I used knee braces and physical therapy for years on and off and limited certain activities. Im now 43 and just had both knees repaired [removed tears] and I am so glad that I had waited. If I were you I would take her to a pediatric orthopedic specialist and discuss her now condition with him. FYI, unless your doc told you prior to the surgery, cartilage does not repair well when they try to staple it back together...results are very hit and miss. Hope your daughter finds some relief!!

i have the same thing in my left knee but surgery is too risky. they said it might hurt at times but it's nothing to worry about. when your daughter grows older, she will outgrow this most likely
