Is it good for the ankle to swim, if it is sprained?

Can I swim with a sprained ankle?

  • I just sprained it yesterday. I have crutches and a walking boot. I'm going to the beach in about ten days, if o wrap it tight with medical wrap could I stand in the ocean? And swim in our pool? I can walk on it I have no swelling or bruising and I have not a lot of pain.

I depends on how it feels. I tore my tendon in my ankle AT the beach last week. i can "float" in the pool and even swim some, but i couldn't go in the ocean, but my injury was obviously a lot worse. I would say that its ok to go in the pool and to be EXTREMELY careful in the ocean!!!! the pull and push of the waves is very unsteadying, even for someone with no injury! I would say start by sitting at the waters edge. then move to kneeling in shallow water, and keep moving and if your ankle feels steady (not if it hurts or not, but if it feels steady) and pain free. then I would say its ok to be careful with it! you wouldnt want to reinjure it!! (re injury hurts more than the origional injury because you are tearing scar tissue) GOOD LUCK AND BE CAREFUL!

Just lay off of it for now. You don't want to risk further injury.

go head just make sure the pool or beach isnt to crowed u dont want anybody stepping on it and try not to stand on it just try to hover in the water
