How can you tell if you broke your finger?

How can i tell if i broke my finger?

  • so 3 weeks ago i got bit by a dog, my finger had a few chunks out of it and it swelled up really bad. for about a week the swelling was really bad and i couldn't bend my finger at any of the joints, i couldn't even touch the end of my finger to my palm. it's been 3 weeks now and the swelling isn't that much anymore but it's still bigger than my other finger. the problem that i'm concerned about is the fact that my joints seem to hurt a lot in that finger. like when i bend it, it feels really tight. and if i try and stretch the finger out or bend it to the side it really hurts. also if i touch the knuckle itself it hurts a lot. i just don't know if this means my finger could be broken, fractured, sprained, or if there is fluid or anything in my knuckle. just curious if anyone can give some input, anything would help!

If it's just your finger, then I wouldn't go to the doctor. They can't do much to a broken finger. If I were you, just buy those metal things that go under it, and wrap it to that. Make sure that it's tight so it can't move much. :) But it might be infected... You SHOULD probably get that checked out...

You probably have an infection and should go to the Dr and get some anti-biotics. A dog bite is the one of the worst bites to have out side of a human bite. A dog's mouth is infested with bacteria and infection, you really need to see a Dr. immediately.

You may not necessarily ever be 100% sure you broke a finger. Your best bet is to tape it to the splints or a Popsicle stick and splint it for a week. If you are experiencing tons of pain still and it isn't getting better go see your doctor.

OUCH! That sounds really painful! I don't think you broke your finger. I think you could have damaged some nerves or the joints. The dog probably bit one of your nerves or joints. Just go to the doctor and the doctor will probably bandage it really well and give you some pain medication till it heals. You will probably have to rest your finger for a long time too.
