Have i sprained, twisted or dislocated my knee?
-
Ok so earlier today, i twisted my knee quite badly. i heard a crack/popping noise and something in my knee popped out and back in again and i fell to the ground. i started cying and i dont usually cry wen i get hurt so it hurt heaps. anyway back to the point. i couldnt move it for about 10 minutes and my dad got me to out ice on it pretty much straight away. after about 15 minutes with an ice lack on i put a knee guard (if u dont noe wat it is its like this pressure thing u put on ur nkee and it keeps it in place). I am really curious about what has actually happened to it, i dont need a doctor cos i can move it fine now it just still hurts a little. have i sprained it? wat happened to it? :( this particular injury has happened alot to me quite a number of times in the past 5 years, it started wen i was in year 3 wen i was about 9. I used to swim alot but stopped swimming every week in about year 2 and started olaying golf. i have a feeling that stopping the swimming (which probably strenghtened my knee) and starting the golfing (which has definitely weakened my knee) is the problem. i always used to be able to move freely before the first time this happened, without it happeneing that is. i used to do athletics and all sorts of jumping around, now i cant even run without this thing almost happening to me. why is this happening? wat can i do to strenghen my knee again? will i need surgery cos i dont wanna hav it. if it helps im a14 yr old girl and in the past 2 years i started playing golf a few times a week, and i havnt swam for about a year ;'( should i start swimming to strenghten my knee and back off a little on the golf?

You really should ask your doctor the last question but, when it popped out of place, that's called dislocating it. Even if it went back in after it popped out, it's still considered dislocation. I'd talk to my doctor, since he knows my medical history, and medical hx is important when treating a patient. That's why they try to get as much of it as they can.
your dad was right about the ice. keep it up, 15 minutes at a time. If the injury is repetitive [as you claimed] you should see an orthopedist specializing in knees. If something is wrong, it could continue to get worse. remember , a bad knee can trigger a bad hip and bad ankle.
