Open MRI - any dangers?

Can i request a post operation mri for an open workers comp knee injury and can i request pain management?

  • I was hurt on the job and had an MRI on my knee the mri conclusion reads as follows; Prominent focal marrow edema in the anterior aspect of the tiba, anteria to the ACL insertion.Findings are related to a bone contusion in this area. There is soft tissue swelling overlying the area of of prominent marrow edema.A non displaced fracture extends vertically from the anterior margin of the tibia paralleling the anterior cortex of the central tibia.Moderate joint enffusion. It also says intact mensci. I was released back to full duty , but still had pain . I schuelded an apointment and my ortho doctor said he wanted to scope it, and when he did he wound up finding a teear in my meniccus and cut a piece of it out and did some shaving to it. Can some one tell me what all theese fancy words mean and will i have chronic pain in ths area??

  • Answer:

Edema = fluid in around joints etc. Water Retention Marrow = probably the bone marrow ACL = anterior cruciate ligament = ligament in the knee, right around the MCL which is the medial cruciate ligament. These are the most common injuries in the knee. Bone contusion = a bruise on the bone Displaced fracture = this is a type of fracture that has displaced some of the bone in this area. Anterior Cortex= the covering of the tibia Effusion = this is a type of procedure that they sometimes do. Menicus = this is the curvy type of bone that is like a chicken bone that adds support and shock absorber to the knee.
