Treatment for achilles tendonitis?

I have achilles tendonitis. The pain started 2 days ago. I'm an athlete and I need to train everyday. What can I do to heal it as soon as possible? Should I still continue my training? I don't know how long this problem will last, and I can't afford to rest for a long period of time.

Lucky for you, the condition is still very young. The key for you will be to let this clear up in the beginning and then be done with it and not let it continue to get worse and eventually let it become chronic. Chronic tendonitis is really hard to get rid of and I think that you should rest for a couple of weeks and ice it 3 three times a day for 15-20 min and let the tendon warm up really well before walking on it too. A cold tendon is very inelastic and can further the injury to a not so stable area. An 800mg dose of Ibuprofen 3 times a day as well, both of these treatments are always doctor recommended for achilles tendonitis. It's better to take a little time off and give it a chance to fix itself then to think "Oh I can't lose any time on my training, I'll just push it anyway" and end up doing damage that will cause you to lose far more training that you would've if you'd just let it heal right the first time. First .. make sure you have 'tendonitis'. Doctors diagnosed me with elbow tendonitis for ten years. Specialists and cortisone shots were the order of the day. Finally I went to a chiropractor and discovered I had a pinched nerve in my wrist and another in my shoulder. He fixed it and I've never looked back. I work in construction and study martial arts. For now, you need to stop exercising. More damage, more pain, more time off.
