Do I have a bruised or broken rib and what can i do to make it heal faster?

Okay so last week i got punched by my friend (long story lost a bet) and it didnt hurt that much until last night i was playing basketball and it started hurting when i shot the ball. I went inside and now whenever i move it hurts in that place. what do i do? its like the 2nd to last rib at the bottom on the right.

It sounds like a bruise. A broken rib would hurt a lot more and immediately. Bruises, unfortunately just take time to heal. Bruises are basically broken blood vessels beneath the skin, it has to be broken down and reabsorbed by your body. You really can't hurry it up. It is up to your body. I think you should just avoid what hurts for now. Take it easy!

Most likely it is only a bruise. He would have had to hit you pretty hard for it to have been broken. I think you would have felt the effects right away if it was a break/crack. The best thing to do to heal fastest is to rest that area, do not over exert, reach, etc. For the 1st few hours to have stopped the swelling, you should have placed ice on it. Now that the 1st few hours have passed, the best thing is heat.
it sounds as if it is just bruised if it was broken you would feel some movement of the broken ends
You cannot do anything for broken or bruised ribs. It doesn't matter what you have as long as it doesn't appear to get worse.
