Will a bite from an Indiana wolf spider hurt a baby?

  • My 7 week old daughter had a wolf spider on her today and I got it off before it bit her but if it would have bit her would it hurt her? I know they don't affect adults but she is so much smaller than me! Also, how do you get rid of them?

  • Answer:

Wolf spiders, like all true spiders are venomous. For a child this young, any bite would be a serious issue, possibly requiring medical attention. Wolf spiders do periodically wander indoors, and there is no way to prevent this entirely. They would not be prone to bite if they are just crawling on you,but many people panic and either smack,or violently try to brush the spider off. This can provoke a bite. Being rather timid, it is easier to shoo the spider off. If they feel threatened, they will raise their first pair of legs in defense. any further provocation can sometimes result in a bite, and they are quick. If your child spends time in a crib(or =) you can wrap adhesive tape 'sticky side out' around the legs or other places a spider may be able to crawl into the crib. hope this helps
