What are the symptoms like an ingrown toenail?

Can my toenail look ingrown but not Actually be ingrown?

• First of all i have had only one ingrown toenail before. I just have a few questions that need to be answered.My mom says i was born with a downward toenail, and i only got an ingrown toenail because i picked at it. My toenails(all of them on the big toes) are inward and look ingrown kinda. They arent red or inflamed, but hurt a little bit every now and then (like when im out playing). I just wanted to know if they will become ingrown or if i can do something before they are ingrown. Or is it just the way i was born....need help!!!!

  You could change that by going to a pedicurist and have it cut correctly so that it could change direction on the way it grows.
