Why does the tip of my thumb hurt?

Tiny red splinter looking dots on the tip of my thumb just above my thumb nail?

• i have tiny red splinter looking dots on the tip of my thumb just above the nail and also the skin goes hard and hurts when i push my thumb down (put pressure on it) and when i get all that hard skin off (which also goes under the tip of the nail, it shows loads of these tiny splinter sized dots... what is this?? and it won't go away.. :/
