What Is A "Fourth Degree" Burn?

What degree of burn do i have?

  • The other day a steak knife which was left on the fire fell on my arm. Initially the skin went black and shriveled up and i simply brushed it off and some white skin was visible underneath. A few days later the layer of white skin simply fell off while in the shower and i can now see what appear to be blood vessels (red lines/spots) and merely applying disinfectant causes the burn to start bleeding. There is also a milky white discharge. Is this a second or third degree burn and should i seek medical help?

  • Answer:

Seeing as how it was black first and now there's discharge, I'm pretty sure it's a third degree burn, i recommend going to the hospital.

Sounds like a second degree burn. You may want to go and get it checked out.

This is a third degree burn. I recommend you have it looked at.
