What should I do after a spider bite?

I have a spider bite and I need to know what kind of treatment to use without going to a doctor?

  • About 10 days ago I got bitten by a spider. Although it was a brown spider i am certain that it was not a brown recluse. It stung twice the the spider bit me on the back of my upper thigh while i was putting my jeans on. There was a spot that looked much like a mosquito bite for a few days. Then just a day or 2 ago the spot swelled up and became extremely itchy. I do not want to go to the doctor if at all possible. Do you have any suggestions on what i should do. I've been keeping it clean and the past few days I've put some antibiotic ointment on it without a bandage. There has been no change. Thank you for your help.

    Benadryl is good for any allergic reaction--which you have--since it swelled, etc. Please be careful and keep an eye on it. many people get bug bites, have a reaction and it gets better and goes away--But; Two months ago I woke up with a bite above my eyebrow. I used hydrocortisone cream, but it went into cellulitis and I ended up in the E.R. at work. they almost admitted me for IV antibiotics! What a freak thing. But it went away after a week of antibiotic tablets and cream, 4 times a day. I was told that if the swelling got worse, or the rash/bite area spread any bigger to come back to the ER.

There is a wonderful home remedy. Please try it at once. Take half a teaspoon of butter. Add a pinch of salt to it and slightly heat it over a flame and mix the salt.. Then apply the molten butter+salt on the bitten area. You should be OK within 12 hours or the next day because your case is already 10 days old. You may apply camphor on the spot for relief but that will ease the itch but will not cure.
