Cracked fingernail?

Broken fingernail help!?

  • I jammed my finger a few weeks ago and when I did it cracked the fingernail. However it cracked near the cuticle and since then the cracked section of the fingernail has somewhat broke loose of the finger, but its still hanging on by part of the cuticle on the side of the finger, if that makes any sense at all. so my question is what should I do? I cant afford to go see a doctor and i've tried pulling the cracked section off but it hurts really bad anytime anything touches it causing the cracked section of the nail to shift. heres a pic of my nail. http://i686.photobucket.com/albums/vv221/jwjones91/2.jpg

  • Answer:

It looks as though you may have the start of an infection. Judging from the nails, you need to improve the hygiene. Trim the broken nail as best you can and quit pulling at it. Wash your hands frequently (don't forget under the nails). Cover it with a band aid to prevent further injuries to it and to keep you from messing with it. Note: If the redness at the base of your nail worsens, see a doctor.
