Is it better to keep a scrape moist or dry?

How to clean a scrape?

  • I've scraped my knee six days ago. I know that is a long to be asking how to clean a scrape but all i've been doing was cleaning it with soap and water and putting vaseline on it then putting a band aid. It was all i had but now that i have better band aids and polysporin ointment, i need to know the proper way to cleaning a wound. Note that all i have is bandaids, water, polysporin and soap. I will not buy more and that includes buying peroxide. I just want to make - do with what i have now. Please do not bother answering if you will tell me to buy more. Its already been almost a week, i want to try and clean it now. background info: i know that you should NOT let a scab form so keep the scrape moisturized, but a small scab formed around the scrape. Also, clear fluid is always gooing out of the surface of the scrape. PLEASE HELP!

  • Answer:

My dad is an EMT and i listen to his medical talk all the time. From what I gather, flush it out with soap and water every hour (then you add the anti biotic and band-aid), and if you have strips of cloth, try to wrap those around the cut because it will absorb the clear stuff better thar the band aids will. the clear stuff is pus and pus is basically germs that are bad for your body. so far you are doing really well, and I am impressed with your progress.
