Fell off my bike, scraped my knee pretty badly?

Scraped knee, exposed fat?

  • Earlier today, I fell off my bike, riding down a steep hill, and I scraped a lot of skin off my knee, exposing some fat. Will I have to have it treated by a doctor or would it heal on its own like a regular scrape? Is it gonna be a perminent scar?

  • Answer:

Sanitize it with hydrogen peroxide. Apply triple antibiotic ointment to it, and put a sterile dressing over it. Watch out for infection. It should heel on it's own, but keep an eye out for any signs of infection.

Uh, I would get it checked you might need stitches or antibiotics so it doesn't get infected. It will probably scar but a lot of scars fade away I had many similar scars on my knees from bike riding as a kid that are completely gone now.

Where Is The Love Button?

You did not expose a layer of fat. Sounds like you did it up good though. You need to clean it thoroughly, and keep it covered in an antibacterial ointment. If you get any signs of infection do go see a doctor. You will likely have a scar, keeping it covered in antibacterial ointment and not messing with the scab will make it a lesser scar.
