California license question.

Question about drivers license in California/North Carolina?

  • I turn 16 on November 10th. I live in California and I have had my permit since May 11th.(Because you have to be 15 and a 1/2 to get it, and 6 months after you can get your license) I have an appointment for my driving test on November 16th. I'll get it, I'm a good driver. I'm possibly moving to North Carolina in December and living with my uncle so I have a better chance of getting into ECU(I'm graduating high school in June). I'll be on independent study and I'll be taking classes at a community college, so I'll need a driver's license. I know the law is, you can get your permit at 15 and after a year with no infractions, you can get your provisional. But what if you already have your driver's license in another state? Will they automatically let you get your license there in North Carolina? Thanks for any help.

  • Answer:

Its the same in NC, you can get your license at 16 and your permit at 15 1/2. You can get your license in NC on November 10th. At least that's how it was in 1992 when I turned 16.
