How much would home-schooling cost?

    The cost can range from free to several thousand of dollars depending upon what curriculum or program you use. Most homeschoolers I know (including myself) spend a few hundred per child each year. One of the great things about homeschooling is freedom. Some places have laws the regulate how many hours a student must spend per day or year on school. I think these are silly because every child is different. Except those places, you can spend as little or as much time on school as it takes your student to understand the concepts. You aren't tied down to the speed of a class. We do only about 3 hours each day. However, as the kids are getting older, that time is increasing. The schedule is flexible, unless required by law or the program you use. Again, the freedom in homeschooling usually allows you to do school whenever is convenient. We do school 4-6 days/week. If we miss a day here or there, no big deal. We don't follow a strict schedule and there are no laws regarding how many days/week or year a student must do school in Alaska.

You have more freedom in setting your own schedule in homeschooling. And it also doesn't necessarily mean sitting at the table with your nose in a textbook-- go on a field trip, work on a project, watch an educational DVD or volunteer at Habitats for Humanity and learn how to build a house a couple of hours per week... there are a lot of ways to learn in life and you can exercise more of those ways as a homeschooler. It costs basically what you want it to cost-- what do you want to buy, or feel you need. You could use the internet and the library for resources and it would cost hardly anything.

How many hours a day do you have to work? Depends on what the laws are in your area. In the state of GA, you must homeschool a min of 4.5 hrs a day 180 days a year. Is it Monday-Friday? Only if you want it to be.
