Pros and Cons of Home Schooling?

What do you think are the Pros and Cons of Home Schooling?
-
Answer:
Off the top of my head, it would depend on the age and capabilities of the student and the teacher (or self-teaching). Home schooling pros: You can teach/learn at your own pace You can choose the curriculum and texts that work for you You can teach/learn any day of the week, anywhere, any time. You can cover core curriculum quickly, than augment your studies with location learning - museums, art galleries, concerts, lectures, etc. Home school coops aid with fulfillment of state education requirements, and support students with friendships and outings with other home schooled students. Home schooling cons: Takes some formal set-up and follow-through to fulfill state requirements. Must be fully committed to being educationally successful - Home schooling takes time and effort, and money (not excessive).

Pros are being taught by the person who knows your learning style the best: your mother. Also, don't have to worry about going to and from somewhere. Have more control over your schoolwork, i.e., when you do whatever during the day. Can implement religion or political beliefs into education. Cons are much less opportunity to socialize with others. If you go to church or homeschool co-ops then it helps, but it's not the same as seeing your classmates every day. You don't get classroom experience which may be a disadvantage when you have to attend college (you can take community college classes during high school to remedy this problem). And, your parents have to manage all the administrative stuff; buying the textbooks, planning the curriculum, keeping and filing necessary paperwork with the state, etc. Personally, I think homeschooling is definitely better than public schools. Though, private schools are very good alternatives too.

Well this is coming from a person who is home schooled. Pros: I love the fact that I have one on one with school. In the past I had trouble in math class and my teacher didn't care at all. I also love that you learn more with homeschooling you can review things you need to and you can get ahead and graduate early, You have time to learn what you need help on before a important quiz, and I got much closer to my family and I became wiser and more mature (which is a good thing). Cons: The only 2 things I hate about homeschooling would be.... 1. I don't know the latest news with my friends until much later. 2. My mom (who is teaching me) don't always get along. I hoped this helped :)

I went to a private school, then public school, then Homeschooled the rest of the way :) Pros; Time, I only spend a few hours each day on schoolwork, and still graduated 2 years early. I got to spend weeks on mission trips or trips to NY or DC because I didn't have to get off school. High scores; homeschoolers usually score substantially higher than their public school peers. I'm in my second year of college now, and have only really worked hard in one class (algebra...never been my thing!) Family and social interaction; I just recently got married, and moved several hours away, but I am still close buds with my brothers and sisters. I did not struggle with the peer pressure and teasing or bullying that many of my public school friends did, since I was able to pick and choose who I spent time with. We all have to deal with rude people, but as a child I did not have to deal with it much. As a result, I was very confident, even as a teen. Cons; It gets lonely. Especially when my family lived in the country, it was really hard to get into town more than once it twice a week, and I am a very social person. It was hard sometimes to keep from getting lonely. Hard on my parents. My dad never graduated, and was almost illiterate (he has dyslexia, and my mom has been teaching him. He just got into a college this year :) so my mom stayed home to teach the 6 kids. That was hard on finances. They sacrificed to make sure we had everything we needed, and took careful time to be sure we were growing up properly, but it was a lot of work for them. All in all, it was a wonderful experience for me and my family. Soooo worth it :)
