Homeschooling advice?
-
so im in eighth grade right now and i'm in public school. I always wanted to go into homeschooling but never could bring it up to my parents. i want to avoid all the bad influences in my public high school im supposed to go to. i want to get one on one education with my parent who could teach me or online schooling with a teacher. I've never gotten the guts to ask my mom to home school me, im afraid of the Reaction she will get. She graduated from high school but not from college she went to college for 2 years but had to quit due to money shortages. Anyways if i wanted to go into homeschooling is my mom qualified to home school me with her education she has had? if so is there any online homeschooling programs form the U.S that you could link into your answer box that is a reliable choice? And im not even sure how to get into homeschooling> does anyone know what the steps you have to take for homeschooling and online homeschooling? Thanks for your help, have a good day.

Answer:
I believe K intended to write that parents are NOT required to have certification. Studies have shown that homeschooled kids consistently score higher than public schoolers -- regardless of whether the homeschooling mom has "just" a high school education or a college education. Homeschooling is different than online schooling. For more info on homeschooling, go to hslda.org and click on "my state" for legal requirements. Also click on "groups" for a list of homeschool support groups in your area. A local group would probably be your best source of info on homeschooling. Call them, email them, meet them, get to know them. They love to share their knowledge and experience.

The rules vary from state to state, so it matters a LOT where you live. It's legal in all 50 states and parents are required to have state certification of any kind, though some places do require a high school diploma. As long as you're serious about learning at home, it's a very viable means to getting an education, and plenty of homeschooled kids have made it into selective universities (Harvard, Yale, etc.) If you do the research, you'll find there are a variety of studies that show homeschooled kids tend to more motivated, be self-starters, and have a higher degree of entrepreneurship than the general populace. They also enroll in college at a higher rate and report a higher degree of satisfaction with their lives once they're out in "The Real World." While there's a good amount of teaching materials out there aimed at religious homeschoolers, it's not the only thing out there. There's a lot of us who are secular and prefer our educational material to be as well. Homeschooling 101: www.wagnerweb.org/Homeschool_101

Follow the links I gave. One will tell you about the different types of curriculum and the second will give you the home school laws in your state. I home school my children and love it very much! They are less stressed and have many more friends. Plus they love learning and no longer see it as a chore. Show your parents the sites and discuss it with them.

Most home schooled kids receive less an education also they miss out on social experiences necessary for adaptation into the job force . Not to mention most home schooled kids are schooled from home because their parents are religious and refuse to send their kids to a school that teaches facts and not the fairy tales they want their children to believe in thereby hurting them . .
