  • Answer:

You can get into an elite level college out of homeschooling, if your SATs are strong, your grades are good, and you've taken the right coursework. The elite schools recommend that you've taken, in high school, the following classes: - 4 years English, emphasis composition/writing - 4 years math (normally, you'd go up through pre-calc or calc) - 4 years lab science, including bio, chem, physics, and one advanced - 2/3 years history/social science, including US history and foreign history - 4 years of the same foreign language - 1 year arts You'll want to be doing honors and AP-level work in your best subjects.

Start volunteering. Pick something you are interested in so that you will like doing it. Find out if the public high school will allow you to join a club or sport. Some will allow homeschool students to do extracurriculars. Look up the laws for your area too, just in case they deny you, but they aren't supposed to. If you're not allowed to, check out the local community center and see what they offer. A lot of towns have community teams, art classes, and other things like that. Check the library too. They often have clubs as well. As soon as you are able, start taking college classes. Look up your community college and see what they offer for high school students. Maintain excellent grades while volunteering and pursueing a sport/art activity. It would also be a good idea to research the schools you are interested in and see what they say about accepting homeschooled students. Find out now what the requirements are. Also, you might consider online high school. K12 is free in a lot of states and they will issue a high school diploma. If not, make sure you keep a portfolio with samples of your work. Also, keep a transcript for yourself of all the classes you are doing. Lastly, start saving. Top schools cost a lot. You might be able to get a scholarship, but you might not. Don't count on it and start saving now.
