How do you find vacuum leak on a 91 pontiac grand am?

How can you find/check for a vacuum leak on a 1998 Suzuki esteem?

  • I have a 1998 suzuki Esteem that dies on me when I come to a stop or when I turn the car on and put it in gear. I replaced the IAC sensor, fuel filter, Pcv valve, and lowered the RMPs because they were to high. My only other guess is a vacuum leak but I'm not sure how to check for one. Also I got the car checked when the check engine light came on and said both O2 sensors are bad and the RMPs are high I fixed the RMPs and the light went away.

  • Answer:

It does sound like a vacuum leak could be the culprit. Get a three foot (1 metre) length of small plastic tubing 1/4 inch (6mm) or so and put one end to your ear. Move the other end around all the vacuum hoses and intake manifold (engine idling) and you should be able to hear a hissing noise if you get near the leak. Make sure your crankcase vent valve is not stuck and that your evap valves are closing properly.
