How Does An Agent Work?

How does a talent agent work?

  • I'm into one full-service (commercial and theatre) agent but it is 1 hour away from me and thats the closest one. Do you think that is okay? And besides find work and auditions for you to do, what else do they do for you? Thanks if you can help!

  • Answer:

An hour away is fine as long as you can easily travel easily to that city as casting calls come up. An agent finds auditions for you - it's up to you to actually get the role by being the best person at the audition. A good agent will also make sure you are doing everything you can to make yourself as marketable as possible - critiquing your headshots and letting you know if they need to be updated, making sure you are constantly studying with the best acting coaches to keep improving your skills, recommending industry websites you should subscribe to, books you should be reading, workshops you should be attending, etc.

They are the ones who find your parts in acts, it's very important to have an agent. It doesn't really matter how far away the agent is, and besides, an hour isn't to far away. Also, you could sit down and have conversations with your agents etc, think of them as your career supporters, but you have to give them a cut.
