What is your favorite scene from a play? Why?

  • Hello. I have to direct a 10 minute play's scene for a class. I will have to choose 2 actors, either 2 females or 1 male and 1 female. I am still not sure with scene do I want to direct. Any suggestions? I would really appreciate your answers. Thanks

If you're looking for a dramatic scene, you can get The Children's Hour, by Lillian Hellman. The scene is at the very end. It's about these two school teachers in 1930s who live together and are ostracized because the parents of their students think they are having an affair. At the end, one of them is convincing the other to run away with her (because she's really in love with her), but they are both torn between what society wants and what their hearts want. If you're looking for a comedic scene, try Closer, by Patrick Marber. It's the play that the movie was based on, with Natalie Portman. A stripper meets this hot guy when he accidentally runs her over (I think); anyway, they're at the hospital and it's this strange, kind of funny, and irresistable attraction to one another, but for different reasons. Good luck!

I agree with lady, but another good idea is to find a good scene from Agnes of God. It is a very powerful dramatic show, with good duet scenes. Also try the odd couple - female version. This one is comedic. Some more comedic duet scenes would be from Taming ofthe Shrew, and The Importance of Being Earnest.
