Do you need a portfolio to get an acting agent?

I want to get a talent agent for acting, but i need to understand what they do?

• First off, i'm 17 and i want to become an actor, work on films and travel a lot. No not for the fame or money like anyone else who would want it. I want to act for the love of it. 1. So, I did one school play last year, and if i take acting classes now for a year, and continue on. Will that be enough for me to get a talent agent for acting? Acting classes will most likely be on saturdays, because i'll be having a lot of school work. 2. What type of auditions do Talent Agents find for you? Like TV Show extra auditions and movie extra auditions? I also plan on going to the New York Film Acedmy during the summer. And also i live in new york. For college next year i plan on going to LaGuardia Community College. If any of this helps at all for an answer. Thanks!

  an agents job is to get you on professional acting auditions that you wouldn't have access to on your own. they also draw up your contracts for you when you work, they might also do a little advertising for you when you get good parts. a talent agent is an acting agent. there are several types of agents. Commercial agents get you on commercials,Theatrical agents get you on movies and tv movies and stage work,print agents get you on print auditions,voice over agents get you on voice overs, modeling agents get you modeling auditions. there is no set amount of experience to get an agent. if you have talent,know how to work in front of a camera and on stage and what to expect and do on an audition, you should be able to find an agent. your experience will get an agent to look at you, but your audition will get them to take you. if you don't audition well, you won't get an agent. a resume in and of itself will not get you an agent. you need to be able to audition very well and know what your doing to get one. a parent will need to get you an agent, if you want one now. when your 18 you can get your own.
