High School Theatre Play - First-time Production Assistant?

• So, I did audition and did get to the call backs, but unfortunately there wasn't a character that suited me. So, I talked to the director a few weeks later, telling her that I had noticed how stressful it has been for all the crew (including her) and if she needed any help, I would be glad to assist. She gave me a role as a Production Assistant. I happily obliged because I was starting to like theatre and was trying to get more involved. I believe that this will help me to get a better experience, (and although she gave me a brief overview about the PA's jobs,) I still am a bit confused? Rehearsals continue on Monday and I'm expected to be there.. ADVICE? What should I bring? Def. Food, I was thinking a note pad, what else?! And I know I should be friendly and kind.. but I don't really know what they would want me to do. I'm just asking to know if there's anything else.

  If I'm not mistaken, another name (which is more commonly used) for Production Assistant is Stage Manager. You might want a whip and a chair! LOL!! The term "Production Assistant" is used for films, not the stage. Anyhow, you'll be in charge of relaying info from the director to the actors and backstage folks. You probably should carry an assortment of pens or markers, a note pad, aspirin, a small flashlight (one of those tiny LED ones) and a walkie-talkie or headset linking you to the sound booth and/or director. One of your jobs is to make sure the costumes, props, and the set are ready for the show. Yes, there should be a Costume chairperson and a Props Chairperson and the head of the backstage crew, but they answer to you.
